I remember the days when we used to apply suntan oil instead of sunscreen so we could burn more! Good thing we know better now.
Aloe vera gel is a great way to cool a sunburn. My daughter had a sunburn a couple of weeks ago. I didn’t have any aloe vera gel so I cut a leaf off my plant and she used it.
I remember those days! I use aloe vera gel. I love it! 😃
It’s crazy when you think about it now. What were we thinking? (Although I could say that about a lot of things we did! LOL)
Thank you, Francine. 😃
I can burn in 10mins easily, people thing I’m exaggerating when I say that but I am seriously pale. I’ve been burnt in February (in Italy) and October (UK) and I hate it so much. I always slather on the cream for me and the kids to the point of overkill. This year all the running has left me with a slight watch mark for the first time in almost 20 years! I’d rather be pale and interesting as they once said.
I struggle too, because I’m so pale 🙄
I smother myself with sunscreen and still burn! Thank you for your comment. 😃
Now this is the post I needed today! Because its so warm and sunny we have been out a lot more recently but my other half just won’t wear suncream, he’s like a lobster atm, sending this his way haha. Thanks for saying about ice because we normally put ice on us, never doing that again.
You’re welcome. I hope your other half is ok! 😀
Oh sunburns can hurt really bad! When I was younger I thought I was supposed yo peel it off lol. Definitely love what you said about drinking extra fluids because it really is easy to get dehydrated
It is! Thank you for commenting. 😀
Wow, thank you, Michelle. Have a fantastic break. 😀
Great information! Some medications I take make me burn really fast now. I used to be able to stay outside all day and be tan by night. Oh the joys of getting older. 😂 I didn’t realize that about not peeling the skin!
I really need to find a sunscreen/sunblock that works with my skin tone that won’t make me look white
Great article, Rachel. We don’t spend a lot of time in direct sunlight at the beach, on the hiking trail, or anywhere anymore. Dehydration is an ongoing challenge for me, so I’m now a shade-seeker! But, back in my beach days, we’d keep pure aloe vera in the fridge for use when we came inside. It helped tremendously & felt so good! These days, if we happen to get a bit more sun than planned, we use witch hazel, which is amazing as well. Thanks for sharing your helpful knowledge! 🌞
